Sukanya, the actress who dominated Kollywood in the nineties, is said to be pursuing a new career in Kollywood. Sources close to the 45-year old actress say that she might soon make her debut in Tamil as a music director.
Not many are aware that Sukanya is an accomplished singer, music composer and Bharatnatyam danseuse besides her well-known acting skills. The actress, who has starred in all the four South Indian language films, was introduced in Kollywood in the lead role in Bharathiraaja’s Pudhu Nellu Pudhu Naathu in 1991.
She hardly looked back and starred opposite the likes of Vijayakanth, Kamal Haasan, Sathyaraj, Prabhu and all the frontline heroes except superstar Rajinikanth.
Chinna Gounder, Mahanadhi and Indian are just a few samples of what Sukanya is made of. She hasn’t been active in films since 2001 though she has had some releases in the past decade.
Last spotted in last year’s thriller Ennamo Nadakkudhu, Sukanya is said to have spread the word around the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam film industries that she is ready to compose music for films.
A few months back, she released a music album which met with reasonably encouraging response. “I trained hard in music-composing skills and only after I realized that I had acquired what it takes to become a music director that I have started looking for offers to score music in films.
I want to make my debut (as music director) with a Tamil film and in a popular director’s film,” says Sukanya.
Kajal Aggarwal, the actress who is busy with offers in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi film industries (though not as busy as Shruti Haasan), is said to have rejected an offer from choreographer-director Lawrence Raghavendra to pair up opposite his brother Elvin who is to make his debut as hero in Kollywood in an upcoming film.
Kajal didn’t get to do much in Kollywood after last year’s Jilla. She is now awaiting the release of her Maari, her first film opposite the national award-winning actorDhanush, as the film hits the screens on 17th July. She is also the heroine ofVishal’s upcoming film Paayum Puli which is slated for a September release.
Kajal has a Hindi film and a Tamil-Telugu bilingual film (opposite Mahesh Babu) which are in their initial stages of production.
She also faced the wrath of Tamil film-makers as she chooses to skip the audio-launch and promotional events of Tamil films but makes it a point to attend similar events in connection with the release of her Telugu films.
Lawrence reportedly approached Kajal to play the heroine opposite his debuting brother Elvin to which Kajal didn’t agree as she had earlier made it known that she only wanted to be paired opposite leading heroes.
This policy of hers has made her reject Lawrence’s mind-boggling offer of Rs.2 crores for the film!
Even as Nic Arts, the makers of Simbu’s upcoming film Vaalu, have officially announced that the film (which had already been delayed inordinately) would be releasting in theatres worldwide on 17th July, it is reported that the crew hasn’t yet wrapped up the shooting schedule.
Vijay Chander, the debutant director, had wrapped up the film’s shoot some time back but for a song sequence featuring lead pair and former love-birds Simbu andHansika.
The film’s crew is now canning the song starting with the words Vaathiyaaru. The song in question features Simbu in get-ups resembling the late and legendary MGRand Sivaji Ganesan and Simbu’s favourite hero Ajith Kumar.
Simbu’s ‘MGR and Sivaji’ portions of the song have been wrapped up and he is now gearing up for Ajith’s now-famous ‘salt-n-pepper’ look in the song. Simbu, a regular on social networking sites, has proudly announced that he is getting ready to don Ajith’s get-up in the last part of the song.
Thaman is the music director of Vaalu which, if it is released as per schedule on 17th July, might have to clash with Dhanush’s Maari and Sivakarthikeyan’s Rajini Murugan at the box-office!
Reports from various sources firmly say that Dhanush’s Maari has been postponed from July 17 but the team is constantly refuting the news as rumors.
Sources say that Maari has got U/A certificate from censor board and talks are on to trim some portion to receive ‘U’ certificate so that the film will be eligible to get the tax exemption provided by Tamil Nadu government.
“The new release date of Maari is likely to be on July 24 and an official announcement will be out soon” says a source in the trade.
Directed by Balaji Mohan, Maari has music by Anirudh Ravichander and KajalAggarwal is the heroine.
